Weekend Update | Bar-Z Bash Booty and Update
Some very useful information, and well explained Dean. I'm sure it will be useful one day. Cheers Nobby
Nice save Dean. Good reference video for the future. Sometimes the littlest things are the biggest mystery. I miss Enco they had some decent prices on their products. Thank for the video and Happy 4th.
Nice one sir, thanks for showing that. That’s a fiddly little device but great to have the info available for others to see.
Nice save Dean. I have a similar chuck. It's the bigger one. Good to know what's in there. Take care.
Thanks Randy, I had visions of having to buy a new one..
Gday Dean, that was really interesting and well explained, thanks mate
Thanks Matty !
Thanks Dean. Where did you get the chuck?
Picked it up at a engineers / machinist estate sale. I've never seen another one like it. Thanks Terry 👍👍
I did the same on one of my drill chuck two weeks ago. But the cup shape part on the screw is broken, so my drill chuck became an artefact. But you have a nice win here. Back on track again.
That's a bummer. Thanks for the view Michael.. It's nice for small work, happy its working again.
great discussion and instruction/how to…
Thanks Chuck !
Probably made by Llambrich.
Hummm I'll have a look, Thanks !
spot on Dean👍👍👍👍🛠🛠🛠🛠 atb Kev
Thanks Kev !
How was the bash? You score some swap meet goodies?
Couldn't make it this year.. conflicting family plans. I did get to meet Clark E. and Mike W. traveling with Keith R. up here two days after. That was nice.. And I won a wiggler in the raffle 👍👍
Possible to have you rebuild my 290sp
Dan, send me an email dean57ayr@gmail.com
Enjoyed!!! Great discussion/demostration patience !!!!
Well sorted there Dean . That was stuck like a #@%&& !!! Cheers 👍
Thanks Max ! the power of corrosion..
Wow that was really on there. The power of persistence demonstrated to great effect here. 👍👍
Thanks Stuart, it was a win in the end..
That was a real challenge Dean. But patience and skill won the day. Cheers Nobby
Thanks Nobby ! Cheers..
Gday Dean, brilliant work, patience was the key here to get success mate and you nailed it, definitely keen to see the rebuild, cheers
Thanks Matty, most of the time the heat trick get's it done. this one not so much. Cheers...
That was a tough one. Nice one Dean.
Thanks Randy !
A fight indeed. But you won this one. Good job.
Thanks Rusty !
Amazing repair Dean. You used that important tool in your arsenal called Patience. Your mechanical skills are first class. Thanks for the video and enjoy the 4th of July with your family.
Thanks Jim, Yeah it didn't give up easily. Happy 4th for you and family as well 👍👍
Not sure why people say it's difficult to rebuild these. The only thing I find hard is finding one place that has everything you need to do it. Don't know if it's because I've rebuilt many vehicle axles, but setting up pinions isn't hard. I have several friends with outdrives and they say I'm the only guy around that will touch them. I myself have talked to a few marine shops close to me and they all said they won't touch them. Funny how as a non-marine mechanic I get swamped fixing them around when boat season really kicks in. Nice video. I was looking for a video with a complete breakdown of a dp-d1 because the one I'm working on currently seems to be missing pieces.
Yep, and having a press and required adapters is key. Thanks for the nice comment...
Sweet! I have the exact same steering gear box on my ford and this helps me better understand how the internals work. Thanks!
Nice one Dean 👍
Thanks Dean. My weekly shaper fix. Peaceful and restful. Cheers Nobby
Have a great BASH ! I hope to see you next year
Good work for Max they have gone to good home , he teachers people around the world Kit from down under
Great finish - and as always makes me want a shaper. 😊
Nice finish, I love messing around with tool bit shapes on mine
Thanks Adam, there a fun machine.. ATB...
Shear cuts are cool!!
Hi Joe, nice to hear from you.. ATB...
Hey Dean do you have the clapper box locked I didn’t see any movement I have a 7 inch SB these little machines are a lot of fun
Hi Doug, It's not locked. Yeah it's hard to see any movement, unless taking a heavy cut.. Yes there are fun.. Thanks....ATB...
It’s hard to see from New Jersey
@@dougvanallen2212 Lol .. and my eyes are bad...
I like this video! I also like the finish you get with your shear tool. I'll have to check previous videos to see how you grind that tool. My little SB 7" is coming along. The more I "play" with it the better I'm able to get nicer finishes. There is still room for improvement regarding the finishes, but I'm getting there. BTW, when is my turn with the Corvette, make sure Chuck keeps the tank full. KOKO! (borrowed from ARW. Hope he doesn't mind).
To fill a tank around here, you must win the lottery first 😂😂 Thanks James !
Beautiful machine. I just grabbed an original 1930''s Atlas 7 myself. I'm in the process of rebuilding it. I'm curious if the base and table of the Atlas 7B would fit on the original 7 so I can convert it for additional rigidity. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting question / idea.. 7B base is longer but I think the machine body may match. I think the table had an open bottom on the original. Thanks Sky !
That good old shaper action gives me total satisfaction...sounds like a train clikity-clack lo!
Thanks Al !
Nice, you made some steel whool :)
Yes and now its everywhere Lol Thanks Rusty !
i don't think my shaper can go to .010 step over. I believe the gear is too coarse. I will test it. Its always set at .035 step, usually .035 depth. I use a wide tool, its 5hp.
The 7B will go down to .005 step over. "gives that great finish" Thanks...ATB...
Love it!
Nice. 👍
Thanks for the video keep on keeping on.
Thanks Harold ! KOKO
The feed is running in the wrong direction and the tool is incorrectly ground. If you correct this, the surface will be much better.
It's not always easy to tell on the video, but look at the lead screw vs the ram direction at 0:34 I'm still learning tool geometry for the shaper, any tips are most welcome.. Thanks for viewing, ATB....Dean
@@TheAyrCaveShop The feed moves the tool into the material. As a result, the chip is not cut off, but torn off, as you can see in the video. In addition, the rake angle of over 45° is far too large, it should be a maximum of 5°.
@@H.v.G. Nope, toolangles, feed and depth of cut are correct in this clip.
@@Rustinox No Rustinox, it's not! Look at 5:10 and you'll see it very clearly.
@@H.v.G. It's a sheer tool, uses a side slicing action. Similar to draw filing.
Enjoyed❤
Thanks Chuck !
Beautiful finish. I need to use my shaper more.
Thanks Greg, go for it !
Great finish on this part and that is old school shaper work, looks good Dean
Thank You !
nice!
Thanks !
Nice slow mo.
Thanks Randy !
After seven years... Well, why not? Time doesn't count.
The current record holder was a plumbing repair in the house, it only took me 30 years to install the final part. Lol
I got a good deal on a Clasuing 8520, everything was well oiled, paint was well chipped but no rust at all on the machine. Once you clean up this mill it will be a fun small mill to run. I really like mine and it’s great for smaller spaces.
Thanks for the nice comment Alex, I just sold it at a good price to a local guy. Finely came to conclusion I had too many projects and not enough time. He was very excided and plans on performing a full restoration. All The Best...Dean
Gday Dean, that’s a great set up, I don’t believe it’ll ever wear out in a hurry, well explained to mate, cheers
Thanks Matty, and the best thing, it only comes on once a week 🙂🙂
Enjoyed…great discussion/information
Here we use both shiv pulley. That is an impressive air compressor set up. Why didn't you put single phase motors on? That square D control looks like a water pressure switch. Take care Dean
Hi Randy, Yeah we can pick up used commercial 3-phase motors around here dirt cheap. And I'm already setup with a proper VFD. Single phase motors are harder to come by, especially decent ones and the quality ones are crazy expensive. Funny that pressure switch might be a water one, I don't remember where I got it, but it works great! Thanks Randy, ATB....
It was over 100 degress here a few days ago. See you at the Bash.
One day heat wave we had 93 here. conflicting plans this year, can't make the bash ☹ Thanks Ken !
